The Task Before Mauricio Pochettino
Argentine born, Mauricio Pochettino came during the 2023 summer transfer window, over one year after stepping down as coach of Paris Saint Germain FC of France. He's already made his name in England with his stint at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur FC, with whom he narrowly missed the 2019 UEFA Champions League to Liverpool FC. He turned both teams into exciting attack minded teams that could beat anyone on their day. After four years of doing this, diminishing returns set in and both he and David Levy could not create the immediate response to keep them winning. Levy sacked him!
With Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino has got a difficult job cut out for him, knowing the volatility of the English Premier League. He's rebuilding at Chelsea with good support from the owners but like most club owners do, good results must come to guarantee your seat. Coach Graham Potter was sacked when he couldn't deliver, same with Frank Lampard. The experience of the Argentine could make him last, since he's always got the reputation for trusting young players in his team. His ability to remain on this job would depend on sustained good results in the league and winning the support of the fans.
After signing for Chelsea FC, he articulated his vision, speaking clearly about his objectives;
‘‘The objective is to win because football is about winning. We will have good times, create good relationships, have a nice environment and relationship with people, but the most important thing in the end is to win.
‘If you win, it helps develop all the other things. Football is about results, how you achieve that is different because we are people that care about the way we achieve the results………….
Winning is Everything
