The passion to excel improves consistency and strengthens the capacity to achieve despite the odds! In spite of several painful losses at the precipice of glory, the English national football team, the three Lions, just swept through the Italian national football team three goals to one, to confirm their place in the Germany 2024 European Nations Cup Competition. It was never a surprise since they had always dominated their group. The exhilarating aspect of their recent performances remains the consistency with which they have striven to win a major title since their last one fifty seven years ago! Before coach Gareth Southgate or any of his crew was born!
On the streets of London, Manchester, Liverpool et al the legend of the English 1966 World Cup victory is yet to evaporate. The reality of identifying with new living legends is becoming evident, now that virtually every single member of the 1966 team has gone beyond. We have the multimillion pounds English players of the Three Lions, Harry Kane, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Jordan Pickford, Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and others, but collectively with rather no major title to show!
The Three Lions Breaking the Myth of Glory
The success of the English Premier League, the media blitz, huge clubs and their financial investments continue to affirm England and the United Kingdom as the melting point of football in the world. But beyond this, is the rise of several wonderful three Lions Players, doing well for their clubs. These men have become world beaters, knocking and firing on all cylinders! They want to be heard and are desperate for glory. Bellingham just moved to Spain and continues to hold the football world spell bound, playing every minute for Real Madrid FC and breaking records. Captain Harry Kane, the king of English football, is showing that his goals with Tottenham Hotspur, is no fluke. He’s doing great at Bayern Munich FC; Kyle Walker has matured greatly, playing for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. He and Grealish have at least won the UEFA Champions League, same with Trent Alexander Arnold, at Liverpool.
This is Gareth Southgate’s eighth year as Coach of the 3Lions and is greatly remembered for his penalty miss that sent England out at the semi-final stage of the 1996 European Championship, than his over 500 league matches for several English clubs. His reign has witnessed the emergence of several young English players.
In 2018, the Three Lions crumbled in the Semi-Finals of the FIFA World Cup, in 2020, they lost in the final match at the European Nations Cup, and last year, France dealt them a painful blow, at the quarter finals of the Qatar World cup. Now, they're back, not relenting. The pain and circumstances of these loses is enough to have sent these lads into tatters, but always, they return stronger.
The English clubs have been amongst the most consistent at the final matches of the UEFA Champions League, in the past decade and this has drawn positive impacts to their football. There are several other European national football teams that would be on the prowl for honors in Germany 2024, but the stability and hunger of the three Lions, is worth giving rave attention. With this hunger and a little bit of luck, Gareth Southgate and his ward could achieve their dreams in Germany 2024!
